Taylors Farm has selected Bluebox Energy, Woodtek, and McArthurs to build a revolutionary bean roasting plant. It uses Woodtek’s pyrolysis C-1000 unit to turn oat hulls into biochar with the heat from the process generating power from Bluebox Energy’s hot air turbine as well as generating hot water for the facility’s heating network.
Using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), Bluebox Energy has designed a system that mixes the hot air from the turbine with preheated air to create 800kW of air at 210°C. This hot air is then used in a Mecmar grain roaster to process locally grown beans for cattle feed, making them more palatable for the animals and an excellent alternative to imported Soya.
When the roaster isn’t in use, the heat will be redirected to an ORC to generate additional electricity. In addition to being a world-first innovation, it is a great step towards more sustainable and efficient farming!
